| The annual concert of the students of Veena Vaadini Sangeetalaya will be held under the auspices of SIMA, on June 9, 2013 at 11:00AM. The Vidyalaya specializes in music education in the Indian classical and semi-classical tradition, starting at a very early age. The youngest students of the school are below three years of age; the seeds sown early remain deeply entrenched and provides a lasting foundation for a lifetime of love for and competence in music. The teacher Ms. Kavita Basu, initiates children into the beauty and richness of the tradition drawing from an eclectic repertoire of folk and light music from all over the world. This method draws the children into the rigor and complexities of the Indian classical tradition, along a path that they can easily relate to and enjoy. The concert will showcase a sample of this repertoire and include folks songs from India, Nepal and Mexico, semi-classical pieces (including Bhajans, Rabindra Sangeet) and a selection of Hindustani classical compositions. | |
