Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty Visits SIMA |
|
World renowned Hindustani vocalist, Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty visits SIMA for a recital on June 9, followed by a workshop on June 11. He will be accompanied by Pt. Samir Chatterjee on Tabla, Gourab Chatterjee on Harmonium and Brajeshwar Mukherjee on Tanpura and Vocal support. Panditji’s recital will be held on June 9 at 6:30 pm at the Eastside Baha’i Center, with a workshop for students of music, also at the Eastside Baha’i Center at 6:30 pm on June 11. Tickets are available online till June 9, after which a limited number will be available at the door at a higher price. Born in 1952, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty could sing before he could talk. His late father Shri Ajit Chakrabarty was his first Guru, followed by great teachers like Late Kanaidas Bairagi, Late Guru Jnanprakash Ghosh and Late Ustad Munawar Ali Khan (son of the legend Bade Ghulam Ali Khan). Panditji will be accompanied by virtuoso Tabaliya and old friend and supporter of SIMA, Pt. Samir Chatterjee. |

Seattle Indian Music Academy, founded in 2008, is an institution dedicated to propagating traditional arts from India throughout the Pacific Northwest. SIMA’s faculty provide instruction in a variety of different art forms in locations throughout the Puget Sound, and across the internet. Aditi Kaikini Upadhya Visits SIMA Aditi Kaikini Upadhya, disciple and daughter of the Late Agra maestro Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, will visit SIMA for a four part workshop (May 16, 18, 22 and 23) on the Dhrupad choral works of Pt. Dinkar Kaikini. SIMA students will perform these choral works at a performance to be arranged after the artist’s residency. All workshops will be held at the Eastside Baha’i Center at 6:30 pm. Workshops are free for SIMA students and $25 a session for general audience. Aditi Upadhya will perform for Ragamala on May 19 accompanied by SIMA chairman Chaz Hastings on Tabla.
