Chaz Hastings earned a reputation as Portland's most prominent performer of Indian percussion before moving to Seattle in 2009. He began studying Tabla in 2002 with Doug Scheuerell at the University of Oregon. Having developed his foundation from Mr. Scheuerell, Chaz then traveled to India in early 2006 and again in 2008 to receive advanced training from the young Tabla maestro Vishal Nagar in New Delhi. It is to his guidance that Chaz attributes his present approach to the Tabla. Apart from performing North Indian classical and folk music, Chaz is also an accomplished performer of Latin, Spanish and Middle Eastern percussion and can be heard throughout the Pacific Northwest in a variety of musical contexts. He has performed with renowned Portland-area Sitarist Josh Feinberg and Seattle-area musicians, Sarodist Brandon McIntosh and Vocalist Arijit Mahalanabis, among many others.
